GRAIN OF HOPE: NUGGET OF PROMISE!

Now that I've packed up my defribrillator for at least another 24 hours, I can take a breath and talk about our boys in baby blue! That game last night at Staples Center was not to be believed. Who'd have thought the Nuggets would have pulled off a major comeback after being down as much as 13 points? Who'd have thought Chauncey -- our #7 from Heaven -- would have bounded the ball off of Kobe's back and given himself a rebound to make a winning bucket? Never say never . . . not in this town. Not in this series. Not this year. Do you hear a Fat Lady singing? Me neither!

Big night tomorrow night at The Pepsi Center. It's gonna be tipped over and celebrity-filled. But first you'll have to check out my show tomorrow morning at 9am MST, May 23, for Nuggets pre-game rap as I count us down to Game #3 of the Western Conference Finals with less than 10 hours to go.

Let's Go Nuggets!!!

CONFERENCE FINALS HERE WE COME!!!

Big night in the Mile High City, sports fans! And women who love sports fans! And women who love sports! And women who just love to love! Ok, enuf,,,,let's get to the nitty gritty. As if Lil' Wayne in the house wasn't enough, The Pepsi Center was the "6th Man" on the team with a sellout record crowd of 19,000+ cheering our boys in baby blue to the Western Conference Finals. The question is: Lakers or Houston? Who knows...who cares! For the first time in 24 years, the Nuggets have made it to the Finals, and all is right with the world.

It's been an incredible ride here to Game 5 of the semi-finals, but so worth the trip. A little bumpy, a few speeding tickets along the way and perhaps one or two runnin'-of-the-red-lights -- but at the end of the day, it's all good! Coach Karl had a watery-gleam of cheer in his eyes; even Dirk Nowitzki looked a little misty, but obviously for other reasons. Hey, you know when a guy's been in the game this long, hitting his 30's, it's clearly nice for him to have a little somethin' at the end of the road. But, as the phrase goes, the Fat Lady hasn't sung on his opera yet; there are still a few more good years in him. He's certainly got the makings for a super finish to his career -- whenever that is.

But back to the business at home: it's tape-watchin' time, it's making more baby-blue cotton candy to sell, and it's time to stretch those arms and reach for that pot of gold over the rainbow. Til then, goodnight sports fans. Tomorrow is another day, and we've miles to go before we sleep.

Oh Baby, It's A New Year!

Welcome to 2009 where it's a new year for a new coach with the Denver Broncos! Don't let that baby face and young age fool you - he's ready to win, he's ready to lead and he's ready NOW! Let the games begin, I say.

I had the privilege to be at the press conference late this afternoon where owner Pat Bowlen introduced JOSH McDANIELS to the Denver media with all the fanfare of a Fourth of July blowout -- oh, maybe that was just the uber-flashes of thousands of cameras on site at the Dove Valley auditorium. It may have been below freezing outside but inside it was hotter than hot with media members peppering the 5th youngest coach in NFL history with questions on his toughness, his readiness and his yet-to-be selected coordinators and staff to hopefully put the "country" back in Bronco's Country. We'll see. We love him, we're excited...until he loses his first game. Could be a long 4 years, but then again it could be just what the Wild West needs. A good ol' boy from Providence Rhode Island, a fresh face for us locals and hope for a winning 2009 season!

Happy New Year to everyone -- here's to touchdowns, homeruns, goals, buckets and baskets for us all!

Starry, Starry Night

The snow was falling with much zeal and zest but the stars were shining bright and best here in Denver with athletes, celebrities and superstars being feted and supported all over town. To kick off the evening's festivities, Denver Nuggets power forward Kenyon Martin took over swanky Jing restaurant to celebrate the launch of his eponymous Foundation that will serve underprivileged youth and families raising children without a father figure. Traveling to the north side of the city to the Marriott City Center was the 2008 Denver Fans Choice Awards that truly was a Who's Who in the sports of football, arena football, baseball, basketball, hockey, and lacrosse. The silent auction items were abundant, the media had a field day for interview opportunities, and the seated dinner was pleasantly and periodically interrupted with various MC's, comedians and sporatic award-handouts.

A few of my stand-out moments of the evening include a sit-down interview with Brandon Marshall (sans aviator mirror sunglasses!), a pleasant chat about the forthcoming season with Rockies' short stop Troy Tulowitzki and pitcher Jeff Francis, and thoughts on the current "high" we're all feeling about our Denver Nuggets from former Nuggets center Ervin Johnson. Now, that's a tall drink of water standing at 6' 11" and 245 lbs. What an imposing but very amiable figure!

Of course, Rod Smith accepting his Lifetime Achievement Award brought cheers and tears among the crowd of 300+ with a heart-warming introduction from last year's recipient, Ed McCaffrey. Shannon Sharpe phoned in over the microphone to wish Rod congratulations and share a little "inside humor" and puns. And renowned comedian John Caponera got the crowd roaring with some side-splitting laughter on sporting moments and player spoofing.

At the end of the night, a good time was had by all, great men doing great things in this sports town were honored, and Cinderella went home to a clean kitchen with no dirty dishes to tend to. Can't wait for the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame event in April 2009!

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!

For starters: It snowed early - twice in less than 24 hours. In the NBA world, our Nuggets beat the Houston Rockets. In our NHL world, the Avalanche beat Tampa Bay. Our local college DU Pioneers Men's Hockey Team beat Air Force, and the biggest present (ok, I'll say it: UPSET!) was the Broncos beating the NY Jets. Well, well, well . . . hope springs eternal here in the Mile High City. Forget the fact that I had a raging fever for 2 days which nullified my Thanksgiving and the couple of days to follow. With all this sporting happiness in town, I didn't even feel a thing! Fever? What fever? I was ecstatic! Of course, I was a little dismantled about the WalMart employee who was trampled to death in Long Island - what the **** is that all about folks!???? Has the holiday greed taken an early lead over the holiday spirit? SHAME ON YOU! Pull it together. Whatever you're fighting over in the stores, you've obviously lived without it THIS long...what's another week til the store restocks? Or how about even doing without it altogether? Have we forgotten the difference between wants vs. needs? How sad.

If you're looking for that perfect something, how 'bout a great book? Most titles are rarely, if ever, out of stock, and there are always multiple places to shop for that special title if your first destination is depleted. And G-d bless 'em, there's always Amazon.com - the nervana of endless items to fill those stockings and to satisfy the wants and the needs in one's life, lest one gets confused between the two.

If you're really stuck on what to do or what to buy, think about these:
a. Make a donation to one's favorite charity or house of worship
b. Perform a random act of kindness or anonymity
c. Volunteer your time at a Children's hospital, rescue mission or soup kitchen
d. Pay for someone behind you in line at the drive-thru; imagine their surprise when they get to the window and hear the words, "No charge today. The person in front of you paid your tab."

Those are just for starters; you're smart enough to come up with even better ones on your own. And, I'd like to hear about them. Send an email to info@thedailyflowshow.com and tell me what you've come up with. I'll share them on the air and give you all the credit!

Please be safe . . . there are still weeks to go before the New Year arrives!

Broncos = Bad; Sushi = Good!!

When you gotta drown your sorrows after watching one of the most PITIFUL football games on the planet, there's nothing better than wallowing in a yummy platter of fresh sushi, a warm cup of green tea, and some hotter-than-Hades wasabe to burn the memory from your brain of a game that should have never been played.

FYI for Denverites and future visitors: I stumbled upon a great new place callled Mikuni Sushi in the new Park Meadows Vista Shoppes in Lonetree. Originally from Sacramento, Mikuni Sushi has made its way East to open its first location in Colorado, and boy are we thrilled it did! Go online to check out the menu, then zip on over to the swanky place for fresh food, a delightful atmosphere and a friendly sushi bar staff who's prepared to fulfill your every whim and combination of fish and condiments - on or off the menu. Joe, the Associate Chef and manager of the Colorado Mikuni was great to talk with, asking me what I liked in a sushi roll, what customers (me!) are looking for when they come to a sushi/Japanese restaurant, and how spicey do I like my rolls!! I talked, he prepared, and a beautiful relationship began (that's cuz he never breathed a word about the Raiders embarassing the Broncos this afternoon!). I didn't even look at the menu for very long; with Joe at the helm and the menu permanently imbedded in his memory, he whipped up the most delectable Japanese and California-inspired rolls and sashimi combos -- the best I've ever had! Go for the Marilyn Monroll, Pimp My Roll, and Barbecued Tuna with Red/White Sauce. Desserts? Don't get me started...so yummy and unusual for a sushi spot.

For those of you California transplants, welcome home to Mikuni, right here in Park Meadows Vista Shoppes off of I-25 and County Line Road. And for you Colorado residents, stop in and ask for Joe. Tell him that Lisa from Mile High Sports sent you!

Another Beautiful Sunday in November!

It's good news out here in the Wild West! The Avalanche won their game last night (finally!) with a 4-3 victory over the LA Kings, and the DU Men's Hockey Team handed the Minnesota Gophers their first loss of the season with a 4-0 shutout -- Go Pioneers! Now, we just have to wait for the Broncos to show the Raiders what we're made of this afternoon as we celebrate Colorado's 150th birthday this weekend. A tall order indeed, but I know they can do it!

If you missed "The Daily Flow Show" yesterday, I had fantastic guests this weekend, including the Testwuide hockey brothers from DU and CC, as well as Brad Lidge, closer for the World Series Champ's Phillies! Kim Van Deraa (George Karl's partner) chimed in about the crazy night the Nuggets had in LA on Friday trying to get past Kobe. And, it didn't get any better to end the show with a little sweetness from the lovely Nicole Hurdle, one of the 4 Finalists in the December edition of Mile High Sports Magazine Snow Angels cover contest. The winner will be unveiled at the magazine's party on Friday, December 5 at an invitation-only event in downtown Denver. We can't wait!!

As Thanksgiving approaches, all I can think about is a few days of R&R and a lot of turkey with all the trimmings! If you're in Denver on Thursday, come join me at the annual Turkey Trot in Washington Park for a 4-mile breezy walk/jog/run to kick start your morning. And later that evening, we will cheer on our Denver Nuggets as they host New Orleans at The Pepsi Center for what looks to be an exciting game. Will the Birdman be ok to play with those bruised ribs? Can Chauncey take care of business on the backcourt? Will Mello carry the team with some great 3-pointers? It all remains to be seen...let's hope for the best. Play-off season is always on our minds!

For the ladies, well, let's keep our bodies in check so that we don't end up looking (or feeling!) like the stuffed turkeys on the table before us on Thursday. Just about any menu item is acceptable for consumption in moderation -- even those yummy yams with melted marshmallows on top!! Sure, go for that glass of merlot or pinot noir -- just not a 2nd glass!

Whatever you do, be safe, have fun, and tune in on Saturday for more Live with Lisa! If there's something you want to hear, send an email to me at info@thedailyflowshow.com. I'm eager to find out what's on your mind!

Happy Turkey Week!

Lisa
